Joan Chen, Clinical Psychologist
MAHPC(CP) 00751
After completing my undergraduate degree in Psychology, I spent eight years in the workforce, gaining experience across a variety of roles and settings. While these experiences shaped my understanding of people, systems, and relationships, my journey ultimately led me back to psychology and to supporting others through meaningful, evidence-based care. This led me to pursue a Master’s degree in Developmental Psychology, where I had the opportunity to work closely with neurodivergent children and their families, deepening my appreciation for individual differences and strengths.
With a desire to further develop my clinical skills and work more directly with individuals across the lifespan, I also pursued and completed my Master of Clinical Psychology. My experience includes working with neurodivergent individuals, as well as those experiencing mood-related difficulties, adjustment challenges, and relational concerns.
As Carl Rogers, the founder of Person-Centred Therapy, once said, “When someone really hears you without passing judgment on you, without trying to take responsibility for you, without trying to mould you, it feels damn good.” This belief guides my work. I strive to create a safe, compassionate, and collaborative therapeutic space where clients feel heard, respected, and supported. I consider it a privilege to walk alongside individuals as they work toward greater self-understanding, acceptance, and a greater sense of balance and wellbeing.
